Ever since US President Donald Trump announced higher tariffs on Indian imports for its continuous purchases of Russian crude oil, New Delhi and Moscow have talked about their "strategic partnership".
Just a day after Donald Trump announced an additional 25 percent tariffs on Indian exports earlier this month, National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval met Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Footage published by Kremlin showed Ajit Doval shaking hands with Putin; however, neither side mentioned any details about what was discussed in the meeting. Following the visit, Doval said that the Russian President might visit India soon. It is expected to take place anytime around the end of the year 2025.
Doval had said, "We are very excited and delighted to learn about the visit of President Putin to India. I think the dates are almost finalised now."
With the additional 25 percent tariffs, the total tariffs on India now stand at 50 percent. Half of it already came into effect earlier this month, while the remaining is slated for August 27.
