Bihar CM Nitish Kumar submits resignation, oath-taking ceremony likely on Nov 20

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Monday submitted his resignation to the governor at the Raj Bhawan, ahead of the swearing-in ceremony likely to be held on Monday. Continuing his decades-long political run, the JD(U) Chief expected to take oath for the tenth time at the historic Gandhi Maidan in Patna, after the NDA won 202 of 243 seats in the recently concluded Bihar assembly elections. 

 

 

The oath-taking ceremony might be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with several top leaders of the NDA, including Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Union Ministers Dharmendra Pradhan, Chirag Paswan, and Jeetan Ram Manjhi, and some other Chief Ministers of NDA-ruled states. 

One Deputy Chief Minister's name is also expected to be revealed during the "grand, high-profile" ceremony. Authorities are already engaged in preparing the Gandhi Maidan for the event. The Patna administration has also announced a complete closure of the Gandhi Maidan for the public from November 17 to 20. 

Talking to the media, Union Minister HAM's Jitan Ram Manjhi said, "The whole thing is being reported in the newspapers and the media. We have nothing to say about it personally. The swearing-in ceremony will take place on the 20th, and the Prime Minister will also be there...the names of those who are becoming ministers are coming forward, that there will be 35-36, out of which 16 from BJP, 14-15 from JD(U), 3 from Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), and 1-1 from Hindustani Awam Morcha (S), and Rashtriya Lok Morcha...we thank the people of Bihar profusely for this victory." 

JD(U) leader Ashok Choudhary stated, "The cabinet has been dissolved today; a new cabinet will be formed soon. We have been saying from Day 1 that there is no vacancy for the Chief Minister's post..."
