Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta was allegedly attacked during her weekly Jan Sunwai on Wednesday, leading to panic and chaos. The accused suddenly grabbed her hand and tried to pull her.
The incident was condemned by the onlookers and attendees present at the venue. Some even claimed that the CM was "slapped", calling it unacceptable and disturbing.
Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva stated that it was a serious security breach. He said, "During Jan Sunwai, the CM was listening to the grievances of people. A man came forward and tried to hand over a document to the CM. He suddenly grabbed the CM's hand and tried to pull her...There was commotion at the place. The person was nabbed by people present at the spot."

He added, "The police are investigating the background of the person. The CM is stable, and doctors have examined her. She is in shock...The CM is a strong woman. She said she is committed to continuing her work."
Delhi CMO also issued a statement saying that the accused was caught immediately and handed over to the police. Gupta was also taken for a medical check-up.
The initial investigation conducted by the Delhi police identified the accused as Rajesh Bhai Khimji Bhai Sakriya, aged 41, who claims to be a resident of Rajkot. The details are being verified with the Gujarat police. Sakriya posed as a complainant and had come with an application for the release of his relative, who is currently lodged in jail. The documents that he was carrying with him were court papers. However, the motive behind the assault is not yet known.
The incident was also criticised by Delhi Congress President Devender Yadav. He said, "This is very unfortunate. If the CM of Delhi is not safe, how can a common man or woman be safe?"
The Chief Minister visits the Civil Lines Residence in Delhi every week to meet the citizens and hear their grievances.
