As an investigation is underway in the Greater Noida Dowry murder case, the deceased Nikki's brother-in-law has been arrested by the police. Nikki's mother-in-law and her husband, Vipin Bhati, were held earlier, being accused of torturing and murdering her over dowry. So far, this is the third arrest in the case.

28-year-old Nikki Bhati, who got married to Vipin Bhati in 2016 in Sirsa, was assaulted and later on burned by her in-laws. She succumbed to death at a hospital in Delhi. Following the incident, several videos emerged, one of which was reportedly recorded by her sister Kanchan, who was also married in the same family.

One of the videos shows Nikki's husband and mother-in-law assaulting her, with her husband dragging her out of the house. While another video shows someone pouring a liquid (thinner) on Nikki as she sat on the floor. Another one shows horrifying visuals in which Nikki is seen walking down the stairs, as she is set ablaze. Kanchan partially recorded the video of the assault before she passed out after being beaten too.

Vipin portrayed Nikki's death as a suicide and posted emotional social media posts after her death. He has been taken into 14-day police custody after getting injured in a police encounter. He was shot in the leg while trying to flee.

While talking to the media, Vipin showed no remorse for the incident, saying that Nikki had died on her own, and fights between husband and wife are common. According to the police, Nikki was demanding to reopen her beauty parlour, which triggered a fight between her and Vipin, as he opposed.

Nikki's family is demanding justice, with her mother saying that she had complained of being abused by her in-laws twice before, after which they brought her home. She stated, "We brought her back home a couple of times, but she was taken back on promises. But it kept going on. We had given Vipin a car, a motorcycle, and gold during their marriage, and after the birth of their son, but he "wanted even more."

Nikki's six-year-old son, while recalling the horror, said, "Meri mumma ke upar kuch daala, phir unko chaata maara, aur phir lighter se aag laga di. (They poured something on my mother; slapped her, and then set her ablaze with a lighter)."

Nikki had hoped that "eventually, good days will come." But, instead, she became another victim of dowry...for which she was tortured, harassed, and killed.
