Operation Akhal in J&K: Indian Army says one terrorist killed in Kulgam

The Indian security forces have killed one more terrorist in an encounter during the 'Operation Akhal' in Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam district, said the Indian Army on Saturday morning (02 August 2025). It is continuing with the operation in the region, with two more terrorists trapped. 

The Chinar Corps of the Indian Army took to X to post about the operation, "Intermittent and intense firefight continued through the night. Alert troops responded with caliberated fire and tightened the noose while maintaining contact." 

Further stating, "One terrorist has been neutralized by the security forces so far. Operation continues." 

 

 

Operation Akhal is the Indian Army's third encounter with the terrorists within a week. On Wednesday (30 July 2025), two terrorists were neutralized during a gunfight in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir when they infiltrated across the Line of Control (LOC). The operation was named Operation Shivshakti. It began at night the day before, when the security troops observed a group of terrorists trying to infiltrate across the border. 

Earlier before on July 28, three terrorists were killed in the Harwan region in Srinagar under Operation Mahadev. According to the Indian Army, those neutralized were involved in the Pahalgam attack on April 22 that claimed 26 civilian lives. 

The terrorists identified were Suleiman (one of the masterminds behind the Pahalgam attack), Afghan, and Jibran. While addressing the Lok Sabha debate on Operation Sindoor, Home Minister Amit Shah had revealed that the terrorists encountered in Operation Mahadev were senior members of Lashkar-e-Taiba, a Pakistan-based terror group, banned in many countries.
