Following Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo and former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav's daughter Rohini Acharya's allegations of humiliation and abuse at her younger brother Tejashwi Yadav, the family feud seems not to end soon. It has further snowballed, with many internal issues coming up after decisions over the party's political heir (Tejashwi) were unveiled during the recently concluded assembly elections in the state.
Earlier on Sunday, Rohini dropped another bombshell, saying that she was dissed by Tejashwi and his close associates for donating her "dirty kidney" to Lalu, alleging that she was also accused of extracting crores of rupees and a Lok Sabha ticket. Later on, Lalu's three more daughters - Ragini, Chanda, and Rajlakshmi left their parents' residence in Patna. A TV footage showed them leaving with their children from Patna Airport (reportedly for Delhi).
Rohini also pointed out that "everyone is wondering what fate has befallen RJD", a ruling party from 1990 to 2005.
Now, Lalu's elder son, Tej Pratap Yadav, who was disowned by his father last year and ousted from the party, also spoke up for Rohini. However, Lalu, Tejashwi, and other family members have maintained silence thus far. The party also hasn't responded to the allegations. All of this indicates the lingering conflicts and divisions within.
It has been suggested that the differences deepened when Tejashwi took firmer control of the RJD, further relying only on his "loyal advisors" for party affairs. This kind of functioning raises more questions.
What did Tej Pratap say against Rohini's "humiliation?"Tej Pratap Yadav, who has now founded his own party, Janashakti Janata Dal, came out in support of his sister Rohini. Taking to social media, he said, "Yesterday's incident has shaken me. But the insult meted out to my sister is intolerable."
Adding, "I tolerated whatever happened to me, but her humiliation cannot be tolerated under any condition...The consequence of this injustice will be very dire."
Tej Pratap has accused "Jaichands," as he referred to Tejashwi's close aids, including Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Yadav, of targeting Bihar's big political family. He then urged Lalu, "Just one nod, and the people of Bihar will bury these Jaichands themselves. This fight is not for any party; it is for the honour of the family, the dignity of the daughter, and the self-respect of Bihar."
Rohini's allegations, and the "fallout" that followedRohini shared a series of emotional posts on social media, just a day after the Bihar poll results. She talked about a family confrontation, how she was told by Tejashwi's aides to leave the family and politics, and more.
One of them read, "I was cursed and told that...I got my father to have my dirty kidney...took crores of rupees, bought a ticket...filthy abuses were hurled...slipper was raised to hit..." She added that her parents, Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi, were crying, and only Sanjay Yadav and Rameez Nemat Khan (Tejashwi's aides) were responsible for it. She named Tejashwi too, but added that his anger was directed towards his associates.
In another one, she advised women to "look after their in-laws, children, and own families. Rohini wrote, "I would tell all married women never to do anything to save their parents, and if they have a brother, they should ask him to donate his kidney or ask his Haryanavi friend to do so."
She said that it was a blunder not to take permission from her husband and in-laws, not even thinking about the future of her three children, before donating a kidney to her father. Following this only, her other sisters departed.
