Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated 184 newly built Type VII multi-storey flats for Members of Parliament (MPs) at New Delhi's Baba Kharak Singh Marg on Monday, ANI reported.

With the project, the Government aimed to address the shortage of adequate housing facilities for MPs and provide them with modern, eco-friendly residences in a vertical housing format.

During the inauguration, the Prime Minister addressed the gathering and planted a Sindoor sapling at the premises, followed by an interaction with Sramjeevis (workers), who were involved in the construction of the residences.

The Type VII residential building in Delhi is self-sufficient, well-equipped with modern facilities that can serve both official and residential requirements of the MPs. The vertical housing format was driven by limited land in the capital city to optimize land use, keeping the maintenance costs low.

All 184 flats have a 5,000 square feet carpet area, with separate sections for offices, staff accommodation, and residential area, along with a community center which can be a hub for social and official engagement of the MPs. Reports even suggest that the newly built houses are more spacious than Type VIII bungalows (which are built for the top category of Government housing).

The residential complex incorporates green technology, abides by the GRIHA 3-star rating, and the National Building Code (NBC) 2016. The Government press release stated that the building is built using monolithic concrete with aluminium shuttering.

The multi-storey building has environmentally sustainable features like renewable energy systems, energy-efficient fittings, and efficient waste management systems. The buildings are earthquake-resistant with modern structural norms. It is divyang-friendly and has a robust security system installed.
