Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on a two-day visit to Japan, took a ride on the iconic Shinkansen bullet train from Tokyo to Sendai with his Japanese counterpart Shigeru Ishiba on Saturday.

Upon reaching Sendai, he was greeted with chants of "Modi san, welcome!" (Welcome to Japan) by a huge crowd gathered at the city's semiconductor hub. PM Modi also met Indian train drivers who were undergoing training in Japan. The Indian loco pilots have been training with Japanese Railways. Following this interaction, the PM toured key industrial facilities, such as Tokyo Electron Factory-Semiconductor plant and a bullet train coach manufacturing site.

Back in the day, he had interacted with 16 Japanese prefectures in Tokyo. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the PM urged for a stronger state-prefecture cooperation under the India-Japan special strategic and global partnership. PM Modi had also visited the Shorinzan Daruma-Ji temple, where he was presented with the Daruma Doll (the cultural symbol of Japan with its historic and spiritual roots connected to India).

When he reached Japan on Friday, PM Modi received a warm reception from Japanese nationals and the Indian diaspora in Tokyo. In his welcome, the people presented various cultural performances, along with classical dances and folk songs. Members of the Indian community chanted "Bharat Mata ki Jai", and the Japanese nationals recited the Gayatri Mantra.

This is Prime Minister Narendra Modi's first visit to Japan in nearly seven years, where he is participating in the 15th India-Japan Summit. He will then head to Tianjin in China to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit from August 31 to September 1.
