After continuous rainfall in Rajasthan's Sawai Madhopur district on Sunday, a massive crater was formed that led to the overflowing of the Surwal Dam, which triggered land collapse and widespread flooding across several villages in the region.
A vast proportion of land caved inside, forming a crater, which blocked the access routes. Further, the whole of the settlements, including Surwal, Dhanoli, Gogor, Jadavata, Shesha, and Machhipura, are submerged, with over a hundred homes damaged.
The escalating situation caused havoc, with forced mass evacuations in the villages. Many people are taking refuge on rooftops. There is a shortage of food and drinking water. The relief operations are also delayed due to blocked roads and washed-out infrastructure.

The Lalsot-Kota mega highway is submerged under water. The movement in and out of the submerged regions is severely disrupted. Only tractors and trolleys can navigate through the flood-affected regions.
Kalipaltan, Chatra Khatik, Kafila Bazar, Panch Batti, Dhannatlai, Kachahari road, and other areas of the Tonk district are also facing waterlogging and infrastructural damage.
Rajasthan minister Kirodhi Lal Meena also visited the site and took stock of the situation. Acknowledging the damage caused due to the rainfall, he said, "There has never been such a large extent of rainfall in Sawai Madhopur. Moreover, Soorwal Dam overflowed...and water submerged dozens of villages. Two temples, houses, and shops were swept away. Those who have suffered losses will be compensated according to the criteria."
Sawai Madhopur MP Harish Chandra Meena also inspected the affected regions, directing the officials to prioritise drainage and relief measures.
Continuous rains also wreaked havoc in the Dausa district, with low-lying areas severely affected. The Government offices are flooded, and some villages are entirely flooded.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has also issued a warning for continuous rainfall in Rajasthan. Residents are advised to be cautious in the coming days.
