Congress leader and MP Supriya Srinate, while addressing the media, stated that she did not find anything "worth praising" in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent speech at the sixth edition of the Ramnath Goenka lecture by the Indian Express. Her remarks stand in contrast to party colleague, Thiruvananthapuram MP and Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor, who lauded the PM's address, adding that he was "glad" to be a part of the audience at the event, despite suffering from a "bad cold and cough."
Speaking to news agency ANI, Srinate said, "I didn't find anything in the speech (of PM Modi) worth appreciating. I think PM must answer a lot of things."
Calling it "petty" and questioning how Tharoor finds a reason to appreciate it, she added, "He was at an event of a newspaper. He should tell us what his problem is with fair journalism. He should have told us why he is not happy with those who show and speak the truth...So, I didn't see any reason to appreciate him. I don't know how he (Shashi Tharoor) found one...I found it to be a petty speech."
Further pointing out, "He criticised Congress there too. PM thinks of Congress day and night. This is amazing."
Shashi Tharoor showered praises on PM ModiEarlier, Tharoor praised PM Modi for his speech, where he mentioned "India's constructive impatience" for development and strongly pushed for a "post-colonial mindset."
Taking to X, the Congress leader wrote, "The PM emphasised that India is no longer just an 'emerging market' but an 'emerging model' for the world, noting its economic resilience. PM Modi said that he'd been accused of being in "election mode" all the time, but he was really in "emotional mode" to redress the problems of the people."
Adding, "A significant part of the speech was dedicated to overturning Macaulay's 200-year legacy of "slave mentality." PM Modi appealed for a 10-year national mission to restore pride in India's heritage, languages, and knowledge systems." But, he just wished that PM Modi should have also acknowledged how Ramnath Goenka had used English to raise a voice for Indian nationalism!"
Yet another instance, when Shashi Tharoor praised PM Modi. And yet again, he is in the crosshairs with his party for lauding PM Modi or the government.
