Highlights Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said that the biggest challenge India is facing right now is an attack on its democracy BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi hit back at him, calling it completely "ridiculous and ironic" He stated that Gandhi is the new head of the family, which "kept the monarchy alive in the Congress by wearing the cloak of democracy

BJP's Sudhanshu Trivedi slammed Congress MP and Leader of the Opposition, Rahul Gandhi, over his recent remarks during an interaction at EIA University in Colombia.

Gandhi had accused the BJP-led Central Government of waging an attack on the Indian democracy. Responding to this, Sudhanshu Trivedi questioned his democratic credentials, calling him the new head of the family that "kept monarchy alive in the Congress while wearing a cloak of democracy."

Addressing a press conference in New Delhi on Friday, the Rajya Sabha MP said, "There cannot be anything more ridiculous and ironic than those who kept the monarchy alive by wearing the cloak of democracy for 100 years, giving a speech in a democracy, and that too against the biggest symbol of democracy, PM Narendra Modi."

He added, "...the family has been ruling the Congress for 100 years. Panicked by the downfall of his organisation and loss of power, the head of that family, who today seems to be becoming the henchman of anti-India forces, has, as per his habit, made another statement from foreign soil, which is not surprising."

Trivedi also hit out at the INDIA bloc parties, stating that the "mentality of opposing PM Modi has become so strong that one stops seeing the truth."

He said, "The one who has got 'Modi-a-bindu' in their eyes cannot see all this manufacturing in the country. That means, the mentality of opposing PM Modi has become so strong that one stops seeing the truth, and the INDI alliance, which may have India in its name, but does not have India in its heart, has caught 'Modi-a-bindu'."

  What did Rahul Gandhi say?

Rahul Gandhi took a dig at the Narendra Modi Government while speaking at an event at EIA University in Colombia. He said, "India has strong capabilities in areas like engineering and healthcare, so I am very optimistic about the country. But, at the same time, there are also flaws in the structure that India has to correct. The biggest challenge is the attack on democracy taking place in India."

Adding, "Currently, there is a wholesale attack on this democratic system, and that is a major risk. Another big risk is the tension between different conceptions in parts of the country. With 16-17 major languages and many religions, it is crucial to allow these diverse traditions to thrive and give them the space they need."

Waging an attack on the RSS-BJP, the Congress leader said that "cowardice" was at the heart of their ideology. He stated, "This is the nature of BJP-RSS. If you notice a statement of the foreign minister, he said, 'China is more powerful than us. How can I pick a fight with them? At the heart of the ideology is cowardice."

Ever since Rahul Gandhi made these statements, the BJP has strongly objected, calling them "anti-India" and "insulting" to the nation. One of the leaders said that it was innate in Gandhi to tarnish the image of the country.
