India and China are continuously engaged in talks over their ongoing border dispute, as stated by the Chinese Defence Ministry on Wednesday. Addressing a press briefing, the Chinese side said that New Delhi and Beijing are holding "active and in-depth communication" about the control and management along the western part of the border.

According to Reuters, the Chinese Defence Ministry was quoted as saying, "Both sides agreed to continue to maintain communication and dialogue through military and diplomatic channels."

An official statement from the Ministry of External Affairs of India regarding the same is awaited.

There has been a thaw in the ties between India and China for five years now, after a clash between the two security forces at the Galwan Valley. But the two neighbours have started fresh talks lately. This year, they have strived towards renewing and strengthening ties amid rising global uncertainties and tariff threats from US President Donald Trump.

The two also resumed direct flights earlier this week, as they welcomed the restoration of direct air links. Indigo Airlines was the first flight which depart from Kolkata to Guangzhou in China.

A statement released by the Chinese Embassy in New Delhi stated that the resumption of direct flights is a major milestone in the diplomatic ties between India and China.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also visited China after years, as he participated in the SCO (Shanghai Cooperation Organisation) Summit 2025 in China's Tianjin province. He also held bilateral talks with counterpart Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the SCO.

Jinping affirmed the renewed ties of New Delhi and Beijing, hailing the relations between the two, as he called it, the time for the "elephant and dragon" to come together.
