US President Donald Trump announced on Thursday that there will be no trade negotiations with India until the tariff issue is resolved. India has been charged with a total of 50% tariffs by the US for buying oil from Russia. The initial 25% has already come into effect as of August 7, while the remaining half is scheduled to be imposed from August 27.

While addressing an event to mark the National Purple Heart Day in the White House, Trump was asked by a reporter, "Just to follow up on India's tariff, do you expect increased trade negotiations since you have announced the 50% tariffs?" He shrugged his shoulders and responded, "No, not until we get it resolved."

Just a day before, Donald Trump had signed an executive order on Wednesday, announcing additional 25% tariffs on India for continuous trade with Russia, saying, "it undermines US efforts to counter Russia's harmful activities."

The White House said, "India's subsequent reselling of this oil in the open market, often at significant profit, further enables the Russian Federation's economy to fund its aggression."

It added, "President Trump aims to deter countries from supporting the Russian Federation's economy through oil imports and impose serious economic consequences on the Russian Federation for its ongoing aggression."

Prime Minister Narendra Modi reacted to America's 50% tariff hike at an event in New Delhi on Thursday. He said that India will never compromise on the interests of its farmers, even if it faces any economic consequences.

PM Modi said that the farmers are India's top priority, and it is ready to pay a heavy price for it. He had stated, "For us, the interests of our farmers is our top priority. India will never compromise on the interests of its farmers, fishermen, and dairy farmers. I know we will have to pay a heavy price for it, and I am ready for it. India is ready for it."

Meanwhile, Russia, China, Israel, and Brazil have also extended their support to India amid Trump's tariffs, with additional penalty.
