The Thailand-Cambodia conflict intensified further on Friday, even though Cambodia has demanded an immediate ceasefire. The death toll has now risen to 32 and over 130 have been injured. Thousands of people are seeking refuge as the conflict enters its third day today, with fears of an 'extended clash'.
Amid all this, the blame game continues as both countries are accusing one another of attacking. Addressing this, Cambodia's UN Ambassador Chhea Keo told the press that his country called for an emergency meeting, "asked for immediate ceasefires unconditionally, and we also call for the peaceful solution of the dispute." Further, asking how a small country with no air force can attack a much larger country which has an army three times its size, "We did not do that."
Authorities in Cambodia have said that more than 23,000 people have been evacuated from the border areas. While, according to the Thai Health Ministry, more than 58,000 people have fled to temporary shelters in four border provinces.
Among those killed, 19 people have been killed in Thailand, while Cambodia's death toll stands to 13. Cambodia accuses Thailand of firing artillery shells, while Thailand says that the former targeted civil infrastructure.
