An international student from India in Adelaide, Australia, was hospitalised after facing severe injuries due to a violent attack, possibly said to be a racial assault in the primary investigation. The attack has sparked outrage across the Indian community, with demands for better safety measures for students abroad.

23-year-old Charanpreet Singh was with his wife when a group of men ambushed them near Kintore Avenue on Saturday evening (July 19). Around 9:22 pm, the couple had parked their car to view the city light displays when the attackers came out from another vehicle, as reported by Australia Today.

A video has gone viral on social media, with visuals showing the men hitting Charanpreet Singh with sharp objects, some appearing to be metal knuckles. They can also be heard passing racist slurs such as "F**K off Indian." The men then fled away as Singh lay down on the road unconscious and seriously injured.

In his statement to 9News, Charanpreet Singh stated that it was a minor parking dispute that turned into a violent racial assault. He informed, "They just said F**K off Indian and began to punch me. You can change anything in your body, but how can you change the color?"

The attack has caused Singh facial fractures and brain trauma. He was admitted to the emergency services of the Royal Adelaide Hospital where he was undergoing overnight treatment. Ever since the video surfaced on social media, Singh has been receiving solidarity from fellow Indians. However, the attack has led the Indian community back there shaken and in fear.

Investigation under way

A police investigation into the matter is underway. The South Australian police have confirmed that they reached the scene in Kintore Avenue shortly after 9:30 pm and found Singh with facial injuries. A police spokesperson told The Indian Sun, "He was taken to hospital for treatment. Investigations are ongoing. We have arrested a 20-year-old man from Enfield charged with assault and causing harm."

The other suspects are on a run. CCTV footage in the area is being reviewed and witnesses are being urged to come forward. The police said, "We ask anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers."

Another man attacked in Dublin

Another attack has been reported in Dublin, where an Indian man in his 40s was attacked by a group of teenage boys in a brutal racist attack. The gang had even accused the man of inappropriate behavior with children before they beat him and pulled his trousers.

People in Ireland are planning for a protest on July 26 to condemn rising racist violence in Ireland.
