The 2025 Numbeo Safety Index has revealed the list of most unsafe countries in the world. This year was marked with global insecurity amid prevailing geopolitical tensions and internal conflicts. In the global list of countries, Haiti has been ranked as the most unsafe country in the world with a score of 19.0 out of 100.Â
Haiti is facing various internal challenges with collapsing governance and threatened public security. Most of the country is under the control of heavily armed gangs. The capital city, Port-au-Prince, is the nucleus of violence and unrest. Moreover, the neighboring areas and cities far away are also not spared from this chaos. According to a UN report, more than 4,860 people have been killed in Haiti from October 2024 to June 2025. It further warned that gang territory is a major threat to regional stability in Haiti and can even lead to transnational trafficking in arms and people.Â
Apart from Haiti, other countries ranked at the bottom of the list include Papua New Guinea (19.3), Venezuela (19.5), Afghanistan (24.8), and South Africa (25.4). Not only crime and poor law and order, but they are also facing political unrest, civil uproar, and economic fallout. South Africa is mainly dealing with rising robbery, assault, and homicide.Â
While if we talk about the safest countries in the world, Andorra emerged at the top with the highest safety score of 84.7. The small and peaceful state located in the Pyrenees mountains between France and Spain has low crime rates, stable governance, and proper policing. The state has been consistently working towards public safety.Â
After Andorra, the Gulf Nations stood among the top 5. This includes UAE, Qatar, and Oman. The countries are even considered safest for tourism with constant vigil, infrastructure, and community policing.Â
In the latest rankings, it can be observed that most of the Western countries are trailing far behind. This is a shift in perception around global safety. Countries like USA and UK were ranked 89th and 87th respectively with 50.8 and 51.7 points.Â
India has shown significant improvement, emerging at the 66th spot. Its neighbors, Pakistan, China, and Sri Lanka, ranked at 65th, 15th, and 59th positions. Bangladesh was ranked at 126th spot. Â
