
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to attend the 15th India-Japan Annual Summit during his two-day visit to Japan, at the invitation of his counterpart, Sigeru Ishiba. He called it an opportunity to advance India's national interests, stating that it would strengthen regional peace, global peace, and security.
After arriving in Tokyo, PM Modi took to X, posting, "I look forward to engaging with PM Ishiba and others during this visit, thus providing an opportunity to deepen existing partnerships and explore new avenues of collaboration."
This is the first time in seven years that PM Modi is visiting Japan. Upon his arrival, he was welcomed by members of the Indian community in Tokyo, along with cultural performances by Japanese artists. "Deeply touched" by the warmth he received, PM Modi praised Indians for their "commitment to preserve cultural roots while contributing meaningfully to the Japanese society."
The India-Japan Annual Summit will focus on deepening economic ties and investment partnerships, while strengthening cultural ties between the two countries.
PM Modi departed for Japan early Friday, announcing the primary agenda of his visit to "foster Special Strategic and Global Partnership", which has steadily progressed in 11 years.
Talking about economic and investment ties, he said that the two nations will look forward to advancing cooperation in Artificial Intelligence and semiconductor technologies.
PM Modi's post read, "We would endeavor to give new wings to our collaboration, expand the scope and ambition of our economic and investment ties, and advance cooperation in new and emerging technologies, including AI and semiconductors. The visit will also be an opportunity to strengthen our civilizational bonds and cultural ties that connect our peoples."

A Bloomberg report stated that on his two-day visit, PM Modi might be securing investment pledges worth $68 billion. He might be signing an economic security pact that focuses on semiconductors, critical minerals, and AI.
Earlier, media reports stated that India and Japan might sign a deal to manufacture the next-generation E10 Shinkansen bullet trains in India. An announcement might be made by PM Modi upon his visit.
PM Modi will meet Japanese PM Shigeru Ishiba, along with the governors of Japan's prefectures. Following his visit to Japan, the PM will head to China, where he will attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Tianjin. He is also scheduled to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping on August 31.
