Prime Minister Narendra Modi turned 75 on Wednesday. World leaders, including US President Donald Trump, wished the Indian Prime Minister, expressing their admiration and appreciation for his leadership on global cooperation and peace.Â
Trump said that he talked to his "friend" PM Modi, calling it "wonderful" on his social media post on Tuesday. The move is said to ease tensions between New Delhi and Washington, amid the fight over tariffs over the former's purchase of crude oil from Russia.Â
Trump wrote, "Just had a wonderful phone call with my friend, Prime Minister Narendra Modi. I wished him a very Happy Birthday! He is doing a tremendous job. Narendra: Thank you for your support in ending the war between Russia and Ukraine. President DJT."Â
The Modi-Trump call follows just after the two major economies resumed trade negotiations this week. Both sides have said that the discussions have turned "positive" as India and the US seek to reset ties since the imposition of 50% tariffs by the Trump administration. The earlier imposed 25% tariffs were increased by another 25% penalty for the continuous oil trade between India and Russia.Â
PM Modi had also said in an X post that India supports Trump's "initiatives towards a peaceful resolution of the Ukraine conflict."Â
Ukraine and other countries supporting it had said that India and China's trade with Russia is undermining the global sanctions imposed on Russian President Vladimir Putin to pressure the Kremlin to end the war. However, India has firmly stated that it will continue buying Russian oil as long as it is "financially viable" for it.Â
The previous commitment of a "bilateral agreement" between the two nations had turned into a deadlock as Trump intended to be tough by creating pressure on India for its ties with Russia.Â
PM Modi had said that "India was fully committed to taking the India-US Comprehensive and Global Partnership to new heights."Â
Wishes are pouring in from world leaders, political leaders, and citizens across the country as PM Modi turned 75 this year. The Leader of the Opposition, Rahul Gandhi, also congratulated the Prime Minister.Â
While the PM's day will be packed today as he will visit Madhya Pradesh to launch the 'Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar' campaign, along with the '8th Rashtriya Poshan Maah', which will be the largest-ever health outreach for women and children in the country, jointly carried by the Ministries of Health and Family Welfare and Women and Child Development. He will also launch the 'Adi Seva Parv' for the state, where a series of service-oriented activities will be carried out in the tribal regions.Â
