A recent data reveal by Goibibo has stated a travel choice divide between male and female students in India. Apart from price checks and digital bookings, students also look out for the mode of transport, with females choosing 'safety'. They travel, pay, and plan according to these preferences. The data revealed that females are more likely to opt for air transport over roads or railways. It indicated that 36% females travel through domestic flights, while only 23% males do the same. In contrast to this, 50% male population chooses to travel via roads, in comparison to 34% women. Considering safety and time, women likely prefer air travel.Â
The difference further ranges to behaviors related to mobile devices and payment patterns. More than one in three female students is an iPhone user, while one in four males uses an iPhone. UPI (United Payments Interface) is the most common medium of making payments for 71% females and 64% of men. Moreover, 50% female students are less likely to use 'pay later' options, as compared to their male counterparts.Â
Despite these existing behavioral patterns, both males and females consider 'affordability' options while travelling. 74% student travelers in India opt for accommodations that are below Rs 3,000 per night. This shows that everyone is looking for pocket-friendly options, despite other behavioral choices. Advance bookings are also prevalent among students, 63% of them make it more than a week ahead. This is highly contrasting to a significantly larger traveler base in India that gets its bookings done within a week.Â
Raj Rishi Singh, CMO, Goibibo, states, "The female student traveler is digitally savvy, deliberate in her choices, and values both convenience and safety. While her preferences may differ from her male counterpart, what unites them is a sharp eye on value."Â
