The Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology marked the unveiling of several significant infrastructure enhancements on 24 April 2026, aimed at elevating both the academic environment and campus life. Following the inauguration ceremonies, the Institute held a press conference at 5:00 PM in the Director’s Conference Hall (2nd Floor, Administration Building). This briefing provided a platform to highlight the Institute’s ongoing commitment to strengthening its academic ecosystem and campus facilities through strategic development. The session was led by the Honourable Director, Prof. Harish Hirani, who was accompanied by Dean (Student Affairs), Dr. Koushik Guha Biswas; Head, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Prof. Amit Ranjan; and Assistant Dean (Research & Development), Dr. Ankur Pandey.

During the briefing, Prof. Harish Hirani outlined the Institute’s approach to balancing academic excellence with holistic student development. He emphasized RGIPT’s dedication to fostering innovation and practical expertise, supported by a robust pre-incubation framework. Through the Design and Innovation Centre (DIC), students are actively addressing real-world challenges. This initiative has already produced tangible outcomes, including a mobile application for night canteen services, an online grievance redressal system for hostel and mess management, a digital campus entry–exit system, and ERP-based platforms designed to streamline academic operations. These developments reflect high levels of student engagement and the Institute’s drive to cultivate an entrepreneurial and innovative spirit.

Prof. Hirani also announced that, beginning this academic year, admissions to the B.Tech programme will be based exclusively on JEE Advanced. This shift in policy highlights the Institute’s dedication to upholding rigorous academic standards and attracting high-caliber students. Regarding the distinctive features of the RGIPT curriculum, he pointed to its focus on real-life problem solving, early-stage internships from the first year, structured summer training programmes, and project-based learning.

He additionally mentioned that the Senate has recently evaluated a proposal to implement merit-based tuition fee waivers designed to reward academic achievement. Under the proposed framework, students achieving a rank up to 1000 in JEE Advanced would qualify for a 100% tuition fee waiver. Those ranked between 1001 and 2500 would be eligible for a 75% waiver, while students ranked between 2501 and 5000 would receive a 50% waiver, and those with ranks between 5001 and 8000 would be granted a 30% waiver.

The Director also provided updates regarding the major infrastructure projects inaugurated during the day. These additions include the renovated Director’s Corridor, which was redesigned to enhance administrative efficiency and confidentiality. Additionally, new centralized facilities for the Departments of Energy and Human Sciences and Mathematical Sciences were opened to facilitate improved faculty coordination, interaction, and research collaboration. The foundation stone for a swimming pool was also laid, highlighting the Institute’s focus on physical fitness and holistic development. To further improve student life and well-being, a food court and new recreational amenities, such as box cricket and box football, were opened within the hostel zone.

Dr. Koushik Guha Biswas, Dean (Student Affairs), emphasized the significance of engagement, discipline, and holistic growth in the context of student welfare. He noted that these newly inaugurated facilities are expected to substantially improve the overall campus experience.

The event drew enthusiastic participation from faculty, staff, students, and media representatives, underscoring the Institute’s rapid advancement toward becoming a modern, student-centric, and innovation-driven institution.
