The Civil Aviation Ministry has informed the Rajya Sabha on Monday that Air India has been issued with a total of nine show cause notices after five identified safety violations within the last six months. An enforcement action has been completed with respect to one violation.Â
In a written reply, addressed to BJP member Ashokrao Shankarrao Chavan, Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu said, "Out of total 33 aircraft, 31 operational aircraft have been inspected wherein minor findings were observed in 8 aircraft. These aircraft have been released for operation post rectification. The remaining 2 aircraft are under scheduled maintenance."Â
While in a separate reply, Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Murlidhar Mohol, had said that within the last six months, no adverse trend has been reported in the reliability reports of Air India related to crashed aircraft. But, he further added that a total of 9 show cause notices have been issued to Air India with respect to the five identified safety violations.Â
Further, in another reply, Mohol stated that every possible aspect is looked into for determining the probable causes or contributory factors that led to the accident. This was in response to DMK leader Kanimozhi NVN Somu's questions as to whether any sabotage has come to light.Â
Replying to another query by RJD member Manoj Kumar Jha, Naidu said that the DGCA has a structured surveillance and audit framework. This includes both planned and unplanned surveillance of the organization and aircraft in consideration. Like, regular and periodic audits, spot checks, night surveillance, and ramp inspections.Â
The minister further informed that about 254 enforcement actions have been conducted till April this year. By 2024, there were 673 actions, while 542 enforcement actions were directed in 2023.Â
Enforcement actions include warning, suspension, cancellation, and imposition of financial penalty. DGCA has planned for a total of 56 regulatory audits this year.Â
