In an official statement issued by India on Wednesday, the Ministry of External Affairs expressed shock over the killing of journalists in Gaza's Khan Younis province in Israeli strikes, calling it "deeply regrettable."

The Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, "The killing of journalists is shocking and deeply regrettable." He was responding to media questions about the loss of journalists' lives, stating that India has always condemned the killing of civilians during the conflict, "We understand that the Israeli authorities have already instituted an investigation."

On Monday, Israel conducted an airstrike on a Gaza hospital, which killed 20 people, including five reporters working for Al Jazeera, the Associated Press, and Reuters, among many prominent media undertakings.

This drew worldwide criticism, to which the Israeli Ministry said that they were targeting a camera operated by Hamas.

In its statement, the Ministry said that the strike was initiated after Israeli soldiers "identified a camera that was positioned by Hamas in the area of the Nasser Hospital", further adding that "they operated to remove the threat by striking and dismantling the camera."

Israel had said that among those who were killed, six were terrorists. Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called the strike a "tragic mishap."

At the beginning of the month, the Israeli strikes had killed around four Al Jazeera staff and two freelancers in Gaza. According to media sources, over 200 media workers have been killed in the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict.
