With the soaring heat ahead of the polls, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar announced a key scheme providing major relief to the residents on Thursday. From August 1, 2025, domestic consumers in Bihar will be provided free electricity up to 125 units. Nearly 1 crore 67 families will be exempted from any payment up to this limit. In the post, Nitish also stated plans to expand the renewable energy capacity of Bihar. He said, "Under the Kutir Jyoti scheme, for extremely poor families, the state government will bear the entire cost of installing solar power plants, and for the rest, the government will provide appropriate support. This means domestic consumers will no longer have to bear any cost for electricity up to 125 units, and at the same time, it is estimated that within the next three years, up to 10,000 megawatts of solar energy will be available in the state."
A day before, Nitish had called for an immediate teacher recruitment in state government schools, ordering officials to start with the TRE-4 process. Further reassuring that the 35% quota will be applicable for female candidates who are residents of Bihar.
This series of announcements is swiftly followed in Bihar for the 2025 elections. Former Deputy Chief Minister in Nitish's cabinet and RJD leader Tejaswi Yadav has also been promising various schemes lately, such as free electricity up to 200 units. RJD also promises for monthly cash of Rs 2,500 for women in Bihar, proposing the Mai Behan Maan Scheme and gas cylinders at a subsidised rate of Rs 500.
