PM Modi conducts aerial survey to take stock of flood-hit Himachal, will visit Punjab next

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday took a survey of the flood-affected regions of Himachal Pradesh and Punjab, following heavy rains in the region. He also chaired the review meetings with officials and affected families. The floods have wreaked havoc, causing widespread devastation to lives and property.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi undertook an aerial survey of the flood and landslide-hit districts of Himachal Pradesh, including Mandi, Kullu, and Kangra, on Tuesday to take stock of the devastating situation caused by heavy rains in the region. 

Earlier in the day, PM Modi participated in the voting for the vice-presidential election between CP Radhakrishnan of NDA and the INDIA bloc's B Sudarshan Reddy. 

PM Modi reached Kangra around 1:30 pm, where he met officials and chaired a high-level review meeting. He is also scheduled to meet flood-affected residents and personnel from the NDRF, SDRF, and Aapda Mitra teams. 

 

 

State Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukku, Union Minister JP Nadda, and other dignitaries approved by the PMO were present during the review meeting. 

The Prime Minister has announced Rs 1,500 crore aid for the victims, with Rs 2 lakh ex gratia to the next of kin of those dead in the Himachal Pradesh rain disaster, and Rs 50,000 for the injured. 

Before leaving for Himachal, PM Modi posted on X, "Leaving for Himachal Pradesh and Punjab to review the situation in the wake of floods and landslides. The Government of India stands shoulder to shoulder with those affected in this tragic hour." 

After the Himachal review, he also conducted an aerial survey of flood-hit regions of Punjab around 3 pm, followed by another review meeting at 4:15 pm in Gurdaspur, where he also met affected families.

Punjab is facing severe floods, with the death toll rising to 51 (as per the State's Department of Information and Public Relations). Thousands of people have been displaced so far, with large-scale relief operations underway. 

There have been 370 fatalities reported in Himachal Pradesh during the monsoon season. As per the State Disaster Management Authority, 205 deaths have been caused due to rain-related incidents such as landslides, flash floods, cloudbursts, lightning, and electrocution, among others. While 165 deaths were caused in road accidents.
