  • Young Satna girl, Anjana Singh, hoists the Indian tricolor on Europe's highest peak, Mount Elbrus
  • It was a dream of Anjana and her farmer father, Rajesh Singh, to scale the huge mountain peaks of the world, including Mount Everest
  • Despite the obstacles, including financial constraints, Anjana could achieve her dream

Anjana Singh, a local girl from Maihar in Satna, Madhya Pradesh, scaled to Europe's highest peak, Mount Elbrus, at 6:00 am on 27th July 2025. She claimed 5,642 meters, i.e., 18510 feet on Mount Elbrus to hoist the Indian tricolor in chilling cold. This is a big achievement for Anjana, and also a celebration of the undying tale of India's strong determination.

Anjana Singh hails from a common agricultural background. Her father, Rajesh Singh, is a small farmer in Bendura Kala village of Amartarpan tehsil in Madhya Pradesh's Maihar, who owns four acres of land. She credits her parents and mentor's guidance for her success.

Since her childhood, Anjana had dreamt of scaling the highest mountain peaks of the world. Last year, in May 2024, she hoisted the tricolor on the Friendship Peak in Manali, Himachal Pradesh, and dreamt of conquering Mount Everest one day.

Chilling cold and strong winds always became an obstacle in Anjana's way. But every challenge and obstacle kneels when one has the courage, will, and passion to achieve their dreams. After achieving the feat, Anjana says, "I couldn't breathe at one point. Then, Dai Sherpa gave me oxygen from the kit. That's when it pumped me to take flight of my dreams."

Apart from mountaineering, Anjana also practices law and is a member of the Gram Panchayat of her village. She is a gold medallist in Taekwondo, who is engaged in fulfilling her father's dream to see her scale the highest mountain peaks of the world, including Mount Everest.

It's not the weather alone that stands as a challenge between Anjana and her dreams. Anjana and her father have been dealing with financial constraints time and again. It might take another 30 to 40 lakhs to climb Mount Everest and hoist the national flag.

After managing to climb Friendship Peak in Manali, Anjana had appealed to the State Government in Madhya Pradesh to encourage young mountaineers who bring glory to the nation by climbing such tough terrains, just like the Haryana Government encouraged the players to win Olympic medals.
