Indore

Adding more feathers to its cap one after another, Ahilya Nagri, Indore, is carving out its separate identity among the tier-2 cities. From being awarded the cleanest city of India for the eighth consecutive time, the economic and industrial zone of Madhya Pradesh recently became a metropolitan city. It is also a part of the Government's Smart Cities mission. New industrial hubs and logistic parks are developing in the city. Emerging as the education hub of Central India, it is home to both the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) as well as the Indian Institute of Management (IIM). The city built Asia's largest bio-CNG plant, which processes around 550 tonnes of wet waste daily. It was declared a prestigious wetland city by the Ramsar Convention in 2025.

The Metro Rail Project is currently operational in its initial phase of about 5.9 km, and will extend to 31.3 km in its entire stretch

The Super Corridor, Ring Road, and various other clusters are already operational. Not only this, but the city is witnessing "a golden period" in real estate, with an annual growth of 10-12%. In 2024-25, Madhya Pradesh achieved its highest-ever exports, of which Indore contributed about Rs 13,500 crore.

Bhopal

Madhya Pradesh's capital city, Bhopal, has a long list of achievements to its credit. Stepping ahead from its tradition and heritage, the city is now a smart, tech-driven, well-connected metropolitan that focuses on education, research, entrepreneurship, as well as tourism. The "City of Lakes" was also ranked third in the best governance and administrative practices. It is the 14th largest and third greenest city in India, awarded as the cleanest capital city, while securing 27th spot among the least polluted cities of Asia. Bhopal draws a significant proportion of investments in the electrical machinery and transportation industry. Apart from BHEL (the world's largest manufacturing and engineering company), many other prestigious entities like Eicher, L&T, Procter and Gamble, are headquartered in the Bhopal Industrial suburb.

All corridors of the Bhopal Metro Project will be completed in 2028

Major educational institutions and research facilities, such as ISRO's Master Control Facility, AIIMS, and National Law Academy, among others, are situated in Bhopal. Now, Industrial parks are also coming up in Bagrod and Berasia in Bhopal. It is marching ahead with the Smart Road Project, Smart Map Bhopal (enterprise-wide, web-based GIS solution), heritage conversion, and revenue management system. With a unique blend of its industrial presence, research, attractive investment, and talent, Bhopal has an edge over other cities of its league.

Jabalpur

Jabalpur is going through a massive transformation with major infrastructure and development projects undertaken in the district at a whopping amount of INR 2,000 crore, giving a boost to connectivity, public amenities, and economic opportunities. It's no more a place, only sprawling in its beautiful waterfalls and natural beauty, deeply embedded in history and culture, but is also evolving. With the development of Jabalpur IT Park, there is a focus on technological upgradation, while the Smart City mission aims to enhance urban living.

Sanskardhani Jabalpur is now home to the longest flyover of Madhya Pradesh

Recently, Nitin Gadkari inaugurated the longest flyover of Madhya Pradesh in Jabalpur, which will decrease travel time from 40 minutes to 7. The city is positioned to develop as a tech-enabled urban hub that breathes in sustainability with an improved quality of life. A five-year roadmap is already in the making to establish employment-centric industries based on the availability of resources in the region. To expand the garment business, there is a proposal for the Jabalpur Textile and Logistics Cluster. There has been immense work in the region to promote animal husbandry and tourism already.

Gwalior

Gwalior is a vibrant economic and cultural base of Madhya Pradesh, known for its archaeological beauty and historical sites. Despite a lack of large-scale manufacturing industries, Gwalior is now being established as a startup center, contributing to India's growing innovation landscape. It is a major education center in the state, with many engineering and medical college options available for youngsters. In 2023, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated multiple development projects worth Rs 19,260 crores. Even the Gwalior-Chambal region is emerging as the new hub of development.

The oldest musical gharana (school of music) is still in existence in Gwalior

Gwalior's location and proximity to prominent commercial hubs make it a potential destination. It is also a part of the Smart Cities Mission, which targets the growing urban population, creating a comfortable and sustainable lifestyle. With the initiative of Madhya Pradesh Tourism and UNESCO, Delhi, Gwalior underwent heritage-based planning for sustainable urban development.

During the Global Investors Summit 2025, Madhya Pradesh received investment proposals worth Rs 26.61 trillion. Along with the new ambitious projects coming up in these cities, the Government is also carrying forward its development schemes such as Pradhan Mantri Aawas Yojana, Jal Jeevan mission projects, and Lakhpati Didi Yojana, among many others, for aiding residents. Focusing on MSMEs will generate employment, which will ultimately improve the standard of living of the people, shaping the future. The business environment here, better investment opportunities and well-planned development are opening new doors for investors and job-seeking youth alike. And, if the state grows at the same nominal rate this year, then these cities may have a rough share of 20.01% of the SGDP. The state is truly a safe and promising haven today!
