Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer at Mumbai's Raj Bhawan on Thursday. This is the first official visit of the UK Prime Minister to India in his tenure. Both leaders shook hands and exchanged pleasantries during the meeting.

Earlier on Wednesday, Starmer held various interactions, where he met many business leaders in Mumbai. While speaking with industry representatives from India, the UK PM described the India-UK partnership as "really important." He said, "This is the biggest trade mission that the United Kingdom has ever sent to India."

He also underlined the Free Trade Agreement signed between India and the UK in July 2024. Calling it "really important", the UK leader said, "It's the biggest deal we have struck since we left the European Union. I think it's also the biggest deal that India has ever struck, so it's hugely important."

With the Free Trade Agreement, India and the UK aim to boost bilateral trade by £25.5 billion annually.

On Wednesday, Starmer also announced that three major productions under the banner of India's Yash Raj Films (YRF) will be shot across UK locations, beginning this coming year (2026). The UK PM also lit diyas in Mumbai ahead of the festival of Diwali, as a symbol of deep cultural ties between India and the UK.

Earlier in the day, Starmer met football fans from the city, as he praised the growing impact of the Premier League's training programme for the development of football in the country.

The visit comes after PM Modi's visit to the UK in July this year. With the trip, the investment worth £6 billion, and export deals were confirmed.
