Opposition MPs of the INDIA bloc protested on Tuesday against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar by wearing t-shirts with the name of 124-year-old Minta Devi, who is allegedly registered in Bihar's draft voter list.
The protest began from the Makar Dwar in Parliament, with several prominent leaders present, including Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress parliamentary party chief Sonia Gandhi, Party General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, TMC's Derek O'Brien, DMK's TR Baalu, NCP (SP)'s Supriya Sule, as well as others from DMK and other left parties.
Congress leader Pawan Khera even mocked the Election Commission of India (ECI), saying that his party is nominating Minta Devi as the "youngest looking oldest human in India" for the Guinness Book of World Records.
He took to X, saying, "We proudly nominate Minta Devi for the Guinness World Record: THE YOUNGEST LOOKING OLDEST HUMAN in India - courtesy the several miracles of the Election Commission of India. Waah Modiji Waah!"
After saying that he would drop an "atom bomb" proving vote theft (vote chori) by the EC, Rahul Gandhi gave an entire presentation on the voter fraud issue. The draft roll issued by the EC found Minta Devi, a 124-year-old woman, who is nine years older than the world's oldest person.
Holding posters and raising slogans, the MPs demanded a rollback of the poll body's exercise. One of the banners read, "Our vote, our right, our fight." Another one read, "SIR- Silent Invisible Rigging."

Congress MP Manickam Tagore stated that the EC, led by Rajeev Kumar and Gyanesh Kumar, has become a department of the BJP. He said, "Minta Devi is a first-time voter, and she is 124 years old. The voters' list carries her name as a first-time voter. We want a discussion on such issues - how the EC has become a party to the BJP. The voter list is full of such frauds."
The Opposition is holding protests one after another in both houses of Parliament against the SIR, alleging that the exercise is aimed at "disenfranchising voters" in Bihar, ahead of the scheduled assembly elections in the state. They are also demanding a discussion in both houses.
However, there has been no major "business" really done in the Parliament ever since the monsoon session began on July 21. The only successful one has been on Operation Sindoor, with repeated adjournments over SIR.
Yesterday's protest march to the EC office was halted by the police midway, and several top leaders were detained.
