The Yamuna River in Delhi crossed the danger mark on Monday, with the water level rising significantly, as reported by the news agency ANI. Notably, the rise was witnessed after all eighteen gates of Hathinikund Barrage in Haryana were opened for the first time during this monsoon season.Â
The authorities also credit water release from Wazirabad and Hathinikund barrages every hour for the rising water levels in the Yamuna.Â
An advisory issued by the Central Water Commission on Sunday stated that the Yamuna River in Delhi was expected to reach 206 metres by August 19, crossing the danger mark of 205.33 metres.Â

The Delhi I&FC Department says that evacuation from low-lying areas will commence when the water reaches 206 metres, but the authorities are already making announcements asking people to vacate and move to higher grounds.Â
The river's flow and potential flood risks are tracked at the Old Railway Bridge over the Yamuna, which is a key observation point.Â
The Hathinikund Barrage is releasing around 127,030 cusecs of water, which is so far the highest this season. While Wazirabad is releasing 45,620 cusecs of water every hour.Â
