Italian Tennis champ, 23-year-old Jannik Sinner, has reclaimed his Grand Slam momentum, defeating Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz in a four-set 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 high-stakes Wimbledon final on Sunday. This is Sinner's first Wimbledon title, avenging his French Open defeat from the two-time defending Champion World No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz.

Jannik Sinner has become the first Italian to win a Wimbledon singles Championship. Sinner and Alcaraz had last faced one another in the Roland Garros (French Open) Final, which is one of the longest title matches in history. Alcaraz was lagging behind two sets then, winning it after a tight standoff. However, this time the tide turned in favor of Sinner on Wimbledon's green grass.

Sinner's consistency

Jannik Sinner lost the first set; however, his consistency and calm composure carried him throughout the remaining sets. He took the upper hand over Alcaraz in the three tightly contested sets thereafter. Sinner has had an already magnificent year, with stellar performances, where he won the US Open in September 2024, and successfully defended the Australian Open in January this year.

The French Open triumph is Sinner's fourth Grand Slam title (second in 2025), also his first final appearance at the All England Club. With the win, Sinner has not only proven his consistency and dominance in World Tennis but has also put an end to Alcaraz's winning streak at Wimbledon.

After the doping ban

Jannik Sinner tested positive in a drug test earlier last year, which landed him a three-month doping ban. This win at the French Open is Sinner's first, ever since he served the doping ban. The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) found that Sinner was inadvertently contaminated with Clostebol (a banned substance, which is an anabolic steroid). In March 2024, Sinner tested positive twice with Clostebol.

Despite the ban, Sinner was allowed to participate in all tournaments. Had he not lost the French Open against Alcaraz, Sinner would have won all four Grand Slams of the year.
